Description
Mid slope Pinot Noir parcels within Beaune supply the 1993 Domaine Michel Gaunoux Beaune Rouge, rooted in classic Côte d’Or soils of limestone and clay with varying proportions of iron rich marl. Exposures that balance morning and afternoon light, together with steady ventilation descending from the Hautes Côtes, supported a gradual ripening pattern in a cool, structured vintage. Work in the vines followed the domaine’s traditional low intervention approach, with careful pruning, modest yields, and hand harvesting adapted to differences in soil depth across parcels. Fermentation took place in concrete or other neutral tanks with restrained extraction, and maturation continued in older French oak chosen to avoid external influence. Within the Gaunoux range, Beaune Rouge functions as a representative expression shaped by conservative cellar practice and a long standing commitment to maintaining the structural clarity associated with limestone driven sites in the central Côte de Beaune.
