Description
An upper hillside parcel above Pommard shapes the 2002 Vincent Girardin Pommard Les Vignots, where Pinot Noir grows on lighter, limestone rich soils mixed with brown clay and scattered stones. The elevated slope brings strong drainage, cooler nights, and steady airflow descending from the Hautes Côtes, creating a moderated ripening curve in a balanced vintage. Vineyard work at the time emphasized careful pruning, canopy regulation, and selective hand harvesting, calibrated to differences in soil depth and vine age across the upper slope. Fermentation proceeded in temperature controlled vats with native or neutral yeasts, with extraction monitored to preserve structural definition. Élevage followed in French oak with a restrained proportion of new barrels, chosen to guide integration without obscuring site character. In Girardin’s early 2000s range, Les Vignots held a key communal position, offering a technically grounded view of Pommard’s limestone influenced upper slopes through focused viticulture and measured cellar work.
