Description
Nine generations of family stewardship frame the 2010 Lelarge-Pugeot Champagne Extra Brut Les Charmes de Vrigny Premier Cru, drawn from a single parcel on the western flank of the Montagne de Reims. Sandy clay soils over chalk define Les Charmes, a warm, well exposed site farmed organically with attention to soil aeration, cover crops, and moderated yields. Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay are harvested block by block to follow ripening differences along the slope. Fermentation proceeds in a combination of neutral barrels and tank, allowing early evaluation of parcel character. Secondary fermentation is followed by extended aging on lees in bottle, where slow autolysis supports structural development without reliance on dosage. This cuvée reflects Lelarge-Pugeot’s long term commitment to articulating Vrigny through low intervention viticulture and patient maturation grounded in the continuity of its chalk based soils.
