Description
Old vine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from chalk, flint, and clay soils across several premier cru villages in the Vallée de la Marne frame 2011 René Geoffroy Champagne Brut Premier Cru Volupté, produced from the family’s base in Cumières. The season’s shifting weather required careful canopy work and moderated yields, with harvest conducted by hand to keep raw material consistent across parcels. Grapes are pressed in traditional Coquard presses, then fermented in enamel tanks and older barrels, allowing parcel by parcel monitoring as the base wines take shape. Following tirage, extended lees aging builds structural detail through slow maturation. Within the Geoffroy portfolio, Volupté functions as a study of Chardonnay forward blending from premier cru slopes under a specific year’s conditions, informing longer term decisions around clonal material, pressing choices, and reserve wine management.
