Description
A selection of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from cooler crus across the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne forms the basis of 2013 Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Brut Cuvée Rare, assembled from mid slope parcels dominated by chalk and chalk limestone. Strong drainage and consistent valley winds supported the notably long, late ripening pattern of 2013, and vineyard partners relied on strict canopy management, moderated yields, and precise hand harvesting to secure the structural tension required for long maturation. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel with parcel separation maintained so components can be assessed in detail prior to blending. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine undergoes prolonged lees aging in the maison’s deep chalk cellars, where stable temperatures support slow integration before disgorgement at a calibrated Brut dosage. As a flagship release, Cuvée Rare presents a technical synthesis of multi cru selection and extended traditional method élevage.
