Description

Pinot Noir parcels in Villers Marmery, where chalk is interspersed with slightly warmer and more freely draining surface soils, provide the base material for the 2014 Champagne Brut Rosé de Saignée from A. Margaine. Although the village is primarily associated with Chardonnay, these sites allow for measured ripening suitable for saignée production in a season that required close attention to canopy alignment and fruit zone exposure. Clusters were harvested by hand, lightly crushed, and left in brief contact with the skins to extract color and structural elements before fermentation proceeded in stainless steel. After the base wines were assembled, the cuvée was prepared for secondary fermentation and aged on lees for a duration calibrated to maintain freshness while integrating the phenolic framework derived from maceration. Within the broader estate range, the 2014 Rosé de Saignée serves as a working model for assessing Pinot Noir behavior in this context and supports ongoing evaluation of vineyard sourcing, maceration parameters, and the role of rosé within the overall Champagne program.
