Description
Calcareous Tortonian marl shot through with interbedded clay underpins the 2015 Brovia Barolo Villero, drawn from mid-slope parcels in the historic Villero cru of Castiglione Falletto, long associated with a structured expression of Nebbiolo. These soils hold moisture yet still permit deep rooting in warm seasons, while the south and southeast exposure provides steady sun and valley airflow that keeps the site ventilated and helps extend ripening. Work in the vineyard is entirely by hand under organic principles, with low yields and canopy decisions calibrated to vine age and aspect. Fruit is picked selectively and fermented in large wooden vats, with maceration extended and adjusted to the vintage’s structural conditions. Aging follows in large, neutral botti over several years to encourage gradual development without overt imprint. Within the estate’s portfolio, Villero holds a central role as a long-held Castiglione site interpreted through traditional farming and deliberately restrained, long-term élevage.
