Description
Light-colored calcareous marl with sandy components defines the Monvigliero cru in Verduno, and the 2015 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo Monvigliero, Piedmont, Italy is drawn from this higher-slope site long noted for its distinctive place within Barolo. These freely draining soils moderate vigor and support slow, even ripening, while relatively high elevation and west to southwest exposure capture afternoon light tempered by persistent airflow, extending the maturation window in warm years. Farming follows traditional, hand-intensive practice, with careful canopy management and low yields adapted to the site’s sensitivity. Grapes are harvested selectively and fermented in stainless steel, with maceration adjusted to the structural conditions of the vintage rather than fixed by formula. Aging proceeds entirely in large Slavonian oak botti to preserve site definition over time. Within the estate’s range, Monvigliero holds a singular role, presenting Verduno terroir through continuity of method and a deliberately restrained approach to élevage.
