Tortonian calcareous marl with interbedded clay defines the Villero cru in Castiglione Falletto, and the 2015 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Villero, Piedmont, Italy is sourced from this central Barolo site known for structural depth. These soils retain water and support extended phenolic development in warm seasons, and the predominantly south and southeast exposure captures steady sunlight while remaining ventilated by hillside airflow. Vineyard work is entirely manual under traditional practice, with low yields and pruning decisions adapted to vine age and slope. Nebbiolo is harvested by parcel and fermented in large wooden vats, followed by extended maceration aligned with the site’s naturally firm profile. Maturation is carried out solely in large Slavonian oak casks over several years, maintaining a gradual, unforced evolution.
