Description
Drawing fruit from Cumières, Hautvillers, and Ambonnay, Marguet Sapience 2017 is a Champagne AOC Premier Cru Brut Nature from France, composed in this release of 68 percent Meunier and 32 percent Pinot Noir. Benoît Marguet, the fifth generation of a family active in Champagne since the nineteenth century, leads the Ambonnay house and has moved the domaine toward organic and biodynamic viticulture, horse work, gravity handling, and limited additions. The blend links Vallée de la Marne Meunier with Montagne de Reims Pinot Noir, drawing on chalk, limestone, and clay-influenced slopes generally planted across low- to mid-elevation Champagne sites, with published materials emphasizing village source rather than individual parcel exposures. Fermentation and élevage are guided by indigenous activity, sustained lees contact, and a Brut Nature finish without dosage. Sapience was conceived as a collective organic grower project and now sits within Marguet’s work as a study of certified farming, site transmission, and minimal cellar mediation.
