A warmer, drier season shaped the 2017 Roagna Barbaresco Faset, with a distinct ripening pattern across old vine blocks in this Barbaresco cru. Sandy limestone and marl soils, paired with the site’s favorable airflow, helped moderate heat and maintain balance under the year’s conditions. In the vineyard, Roagna maintained its restrained approach, relying on hand cultivation, low yields, and selective harvesting calibrated to subtle shifts in slope and soil composition. Fermentation proceeded in large wooden vats with extended maceration, followed by maturation over several years in neutral botti to safeguard structural clarity. The 2017 release demonstrates how the estate’s traditional methods adapt to a warmer year while remaining grounded in a patient, site driven philosophy.
