Description
A multi commune blend sits at the center of the 2017 Vietti Barolo Castiglione, assembled from estate and long term grower parcels across Barolo’s communes, including Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d’Alba, and La Morra. The component vineyards span calcareous marl and clay limestone soils with meaningful variation in altitude and exposure, and those differences are managed through parcel specific viticulture carried out by hand under sustainable practices. In a warm, early ripening season, picking decisions are made site by site to keep each lot aligned with its intended role in the final assemblage. Fermentations are conducted separately in stainless steel, with maceration adjusted to each lot’s structural profile rather than standardized across the blend. Aging takes place in a mix of large oak casks and smaller barrels, supporting integration while retaining the distinctions of origin through élevage. Castiglione functions as the historical core of Vietti’s Barolo program, bringing multiple communes into a single wine that emphasizes the house approach to blending, continuity of method, and vintage interpretation.
