Description
Steep, high elevation slopes in Serralunga d’Alba define the context for the 2017 Vietti Barolo Lazzarito, drawn exclusively from the Lazzarito cru where Helvetian calcareous clay marl and sandstone create a naturally firm structural frame. These soils drain decisively yet retain enough moisture to buffer Nebbiolo through dry stretches, and the predominantly south to southwest exposures capture long hours of sun moderated by steady airflow that can extend maturation even in an early year. Farming is sustainable and fully manual, with low yields and detailed canopy management adjusted to the vintage’s warm, accelerated rhythm. Parcels are harvested separately and fermented in stainless steel, and maceration is calibrated to the site’s naturally compact profile rather than pushed for size. Maturation follows mainly in large oak casks with a smaller share of barrique, supporting integration while keeping the cru’s line intact. Within Vietti’s lineup, Lazzarito remains the principal Serralunga statement, translating a powerful hillside through disciplined viticulture and a measured, site focused cellar program.
