Description
Vine age and parcel hierarchy define the 2017 Vietti Barolo Riserva, assembled from fruit drawn from the estate’s oldest Nebbiolo vines and reserved only in selected years. The sourcing spans top parcels across core Barolo crus, where calcareous marl and clay limestone appear in different proportions and, along with varied elevations and exposures, require parcel specific viticulture and carefully timed harvesting in an early, warm season. Work in the vineyard is carried out by hand under sustainable principles, with rigorous yield limitation and detailed canopy management used to keep ripening aligned with the intended structure. Lots are vinified separately in stainless steel, and maceration is calibrated to structural intent rather than set to a uniform duration. Aging then extends in large oak casks beyond the standard Barolo timetable before bottling, emphasizing slow integration and durability. Within the Vietti portfolio, the Riserva stands as the most selective expression, linking old vine material, site selection, and prolonged élevage into a single statement of the estate’s long term Barolo vision.
