Description
Tortonian and Helvetian marls across key hillside sites in the commune of Barolo provide the building blocks for the 2017 Virna Borgogno Barolo Noi, Piedmont, Italy, a composite wine assembled from the family’s holdings under the direction of Virna and Ivana Borgogno. These marl types influence tannin structure and support steady phenolic development, and farming is conducted sustainably with manual pruning, limited yields, and close attention to exposure and soil depth in each parcel. Harvest is carried out by hand in multiple passes to accommodate site differences, keeping decisions responsive to the variation within the blend. Fermentation proceeds in steel with a traditional maceration adapted to the vintage, followed by extended aging in large neutral casks intended to guide slow integration. Within the estate range, Noi functions as a central expression, showing how long familiarity with diverse vineyards can be integrated into a coherent Barolo shaped by consistent agricultural practice and restrained, site-aware vinification.
