Description
Sourced from the southern portion of Gevrey’s grand cru slope, the 2018 Camille Giroud Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru reflects close collaboration with growers working sustainably across this mid slope sector. Shallow limestone soils interspersed with fine gravel and compact marl promote drainage, moderate vigor, and encourage deep root systems. East and southeast facing exposures support steady ripening even in a warm year, with vineyard work carried out by hand and canopy adjustments made to balance light and airflow. Fruit is harvested manually, largely destemmed, and fermented in small vats where extraction is calibrated to the structure of each lot. Aging in French oak is paced to allow integration without obscuring site detail. Within the maison’s grand cru range, this bottling presents a measured expression of Charmes shaped by consistent viticulture and restrained, site focused élevage.
