Description
Generations of close observation underpin the 2018 Domaine Armand Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin Premier Cru Clos St. Jacques, sourced from a slope whose limestone and marl soils and varied exposures have been meticulously documented by the family. Warm conditions in 2018 required detailed pruning, low yields, and attentive canopy regulation across the climat’s terraces. Phenolic development was tracked by micro parcel, with leaf work adjusted in response to soil depth and drainage differences. Harvest was conducted through a series of small picks to preserve distinctions within the site. Fermentation in open top wooden vats allowed extraction to be shaped through continual tasting, while whole cluster inclusion was calibrated according to stem lignification at harvest. Aging proceeded in French oak selected through longstanding cooper relationships. This bottling reflects the domaine’s sustained effort to articulate how Clos St. Jacques’s slope and geology contribute to its standing within Gevrey’s premier cru hierarchy.
