Description
Drawn from small parcels scattered across Chassagne Montrachet, the 2018 Domaine Blain Gagnard Chassagne Montrachet Rouge reflects the family estate’s work within the village’s complex mix of limestone and clay based soils. Pinot Noir is sourced from low to mid slope sites where thin calcareous topsoils rest on compact marl, encouraging effective drainage and moderated vine vigor. Exposures shift subtly along these gentle inclines, and vineyard work is carried out by hand under sustainable practices, with particular attention to canopy balance in a warm growing season. Grapes are harvested manually, largely destemmed, and fermented in small vats, with extraction adjusted to the vintage’s phenolic profile. Maturation proceeds in French oak barrels of mixed origin to support gradual integration. Within the domaine’s village bottlings, this wine provides a clear articulation of Chassagne’s red wine terroirs through careful farming and a restrained, site attentive cellar approach.
