Steep, terraced slopes of grey and blue slate near Enkirch underpin the 2018 Immich-Batterieberg Mosel Riesling Extra Brut Detonation Bubbles, produced by one of the Mosel’s oldest estates. Extremely shallow, mineral rich soils compel deep rooting and extend the ripening period, while the Mosel River moderates temperatures along the valley. Vineyard work follows organic principles, relying on manual cultivation, low yields, and selective hand harvesting adapted to narrow terraces and varied exposures. The base wine ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel to preserve structural clarity before bottling for secondary fermentation under the traditional method. Lees aging continues for a defined period, after which the wine is disgorged at Extra Brut to maintain precision. Detonation Bubbles holds a distinctive place within the estate’s sparkling program, translating steep slope Riesling through restrained cellar work and classical method maturation.
