Description
Reclaimed terraced vineyards form the basis of the 2018 Le Piane Boca DOC, centered on Nebbiolo with Vespolina and rooted in porphyry rich slopes restored under Christoph Kuenzli after decades of abandonment. Elevations influenced by Alpine breezes shape pruning choices, crop load decisions, and the pace of ripening, and the steep terrain keeps farming fully manual with low yields prioritized for structural definition. Fermentation takes place in large wooden vats, with handling adapted to Nebbiolo’s tannin profile, before maturation in traditional botti that support development without overt oak influence. As the estate’s cornerstone wine, Boca links current practice to the broader effort to reestablish the appellation’s historical reputation, including research into the methods employed by growers who shaped the region in the early twentieth century.
