Description
A southeast-facing slope in Serralunga d’Alba provides the source for the 2019 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cerretta, Piedmont, Italy, drawn from holdings acquired in 2008 and rooted in the compact clays and limestone marls of Serralunga’s Helvetian formations, interspersed with sandstone. These soils support strong drainage and moderated vigor, while elevation, exposure, and marked diurnal variation extend the ripening period. Viticulture follows a rigorous, hand-executed regimen centered on balanced canopies and low yields in line with the estate’s broader approach. Nebbiolo is harvested by parcel and fermented in large wooden vats, with maceration adjusted to the vintage’s structural potential rather than standardized by duration. The wine then matures for an extended period in large, seasoned botti designed to preserve site detail and avoid overt oak imprint. Cerretta holds a central role within the Conterno Barolo program, presenting a precise reading of Serralunga geology through disciplined parcel work and a traditional long-aging protocol.
