Description
Terraced vineyards between 500 and 700 meters on Etna’s southeastern slopes supply the 2019 Murgo Sicilia Brut Metodo Classico, Sicily, Italy, produced from Nerello Mascalese cultivated by the family for both still and traditional-method sparkling wines. Decomposed lava, basalt, and ash create low-vigor conditions and, with cool mountain airflow, extend the ripening season across these high sites. Farming follows sustainable practice, with careful canopy alignment, controlled yields, and manual harvest adapted to steep terrain. The base wine is made through gentle pressing and low-temperature fermentation in stainless steel, after which tirage initiates secondary fermentation in bottle. Extended lees aging in Murgo’s cellars supports structural refinement while maintaining clarity associated with volcanic soils. This Metodo Classico functions as a cornerstone of the estate’s sparkling work, presenting a technical interpretation of Etna high-altitude viticulture shaped through patient, traditional-method maturation.
