Description
Gently sloping, walled ground at the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin shapes the 2020 Domaine Pierre Gelin Gevrey-Chambertin Clos de Meixvelle Monopole, stewarded by a family estate founded in the 1920s and now led by the third generation. Clay limestone soils with scattered stones provide drainage and help sustain steady vegetative growth in warmer seasons, and the enclosed layout supports detailed handwork, moderated yields, and regular soil aeration carried out under sustainable practice. Fruit is harvested by hand and vinified in traditional open vats, with temperatures and extraction kept under close control to match the site’s consistent, mid weighted structure. Aging follows in a balanced mix of barrels selected to support the wine rather than impose a signature. As a monopole, Clos de Meixvelle serves as a reference point for how long term stewardship of a single vineyard guides both viticultural choices and the estate’s understated cellar approach.
