Description
High on the Combe de Lavaux, cool air drainage and a wind influenced corridor shape the 2020 Domaine René Leclerc Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combes aux Moines, from a Gevrey based family estate with parcels across the village’s mid slope crus. Limestone rich soils layered with clay and small scree moderate vigor and extend the ripening window, setting the parameters for canopy decisions in this upper sector. The domaine works the site under sustainable practices with extensive hand labor aimed at managing canopy density in the combe. Grapes are harvested manually, mostly destemmed, and fermented in open vats, with extraction adjusted to the structure of the vintage. Maturation follows in French oak of mixed ages to support steady integration. Within the portfolio, this cuvée offers a detailed view of an upper slope Gevrey premier cru, linking precise vineyard work and traditional élevage to one of the village’s cooler, more sheltered settings.
