Description
Compact clay-limestone soils with variable sand content anchor the hillside sources for the 2020 E. Pira & Figli Barbera d’Alba Superiore, Piedmont, Italy, produced by the Chiara Boschis estate and farmed under certified organic viticulture across small parcels around Barolo and Monforte d’Alba. These sites combine strong drainage with a steady ripening curve shaped by warm days and cool nights in the Langhe. Vineyard work focuses on balanced canopies, moderate yields, and selective hand harvesting in keeping with a parcel-specific approach. Fermentation proceeds in temperature-controlled stainless steel with measured extraction aimed at maintaining Barbera’s structural clarity. Maturation follows in a mix of large casks and older French oak, supporting integration while avoiding overt wood imprint. Within the Pira range, this Barbera d’Alba Superiore serves as a consistent reference for how organic hillside farming and restrained élevage are applied across the estate’s non-Nebbiolo plantings.
