Description
From the Monferrato Casalese district around Casorzo, the 2020 Gaudio Bricco Mondalino Dolce Stil Novo is a Malvasia di Casorzo DOC from Piedmont, Italy, made entirely from Malvasia di Casorzo, a rare red Malvasia associated with this part of Monferrato. Gaudio Bricco Mondalino is based in Vignale Monferrato, in the province of Alessandria, where the Gaudio family has worked in wine for three centuries. Estate bottling began in 1973 under Amilcare Gaudio, and Mauro Gaudio now directs the winery with Gabriella and Beatrice. The fruit comes from vineyards around Casorzo at about 250 meters above sea level, within calcareous hills and mixed exposures long suited to local varieties. The wine is made with two weeks of cold maceration, followed by vinification in steel autoclave to retain naturally produced carbon dioxide. Dolce Stil Novo places a historic local grape within Gaudio’s broader work on Monferrato identity, continuity, and low-intervention cellar decisions.
