Steep slate terraces along the Mosel form the basis of the 2020 Immich-Batterieberg Mosel Brut Nature Riesling Jour Fixe, a traditional method sparkling wine developed within the estate’s Jour Fixe program. The domaine, founded in the thirteenth century and shaped today by Gernot Kollmann, draws fruit from parcels dominated by blue and gray slate, where ungrafted vines and low fertility soils naturally restrict yields. Viticulture follows minimal input principles, relying on extensive handwork to manage the extreme slopes. Base wines are fermented with ambient yeasts in stainless steel and older barrels, assembled to reflect the vintage’s structural profile, and bottled for secondary fermentation without dosage. Jour Fixe occupies a distinct position in the portfolio, examining how traditional method techniques can translate the geological character of the Mosel’s historic hillsides into a dry, site transparent sparkling Riesling.
