Description
Traditional method sparkling work continues with the 2020 Immich-Batterieberg Mosel Extra Brut Riesling Detonation Bubbles, produced from steep slate vineyards along the Lower Mosel. Under Gernot Kollmann’s direction, the estate emphasizes organic farming, intensive manual labor on the terraces, and careful fruit selection aligned with sparkling wine objectives. Parcels rooted in blue and gray slate influence vine stress and acid retention through the season, and harvest is carried out earlier than for still wines to capture structural balance. Base wines ferment with ambient yeasts in stainless steel and older barrels before undergoing secondary fermentation in bottle, followed by extended lees aging to refine texture. This cuvée contributes to the estate’s broader exploration of how steep slate slopes and low intervention practices shape precise, site centered expressions of Mosel sparkling Riesling.
