Description
From three estate parcels in Barbaresco, Moccagatta Barbaresco DOCG 2020 is a Piedmont Nebbiolo from Italy produced as the domaine’s village-level Barbaresco rather than as one of its single-vineyard bottlings. The Minuto family’s connection to Barbaresco viticulture reaches back to Giovanni Minuto in the second half of the nineteenth century; Luigi Minuto began vinifying family grapes in 1913, and Mario Minuto established the Moccagatta cellar after the 1952 division of family property. Today Stefano and Martina Minuto continue the work developed by the preceding generation. The wine is sourced from parcels totaling about 1.3 hectares, planted in 1968, 1981, 1985, 2000, and 2004, at 250 to 260 meters with west and south exposures. Soils combine gray and bluish limestone marl with sand, allowing the blend to link different Barbaresco textures within one cuvée. Vineyard work follows organic farming principles. Fermentation takes place in thermo-conditioned steel tanks, followed by twelve months in French oak barriques and at least nine months in bottle, positioning the wine as a composite expression of Moccagatta’s Barbaresco holdings.
