Description
From San Pablo Estate in the Uco Valley, Tapiz Black Tears Malbec 2020 is a Mendoza red wine from Cuyo, Argentina, made entirely from Malbec. Bodega Tapiz operates under Patricia Ortiz within Fincas Patagónicas, with Fabián Valenzuela as long-serving winemaker and Jean-Claude Berrouet as consulting winemaker. The single-vineyard source lies at about 1,350 meters, or 4,430 feet, in the Andean foothills of San Pablo, a high Uco Valley GI shaped by alluvial soils with sandy to rocky textures, calcareous material, mountain influence, and cold nights. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and harvested by hand. Grapes receive a five-day cold pre-maceration at 8 degrees Celsius, ferment for about 15 days in stainless steel, complete malolactic fermentation in first-use French oak, and age 24 months in new French barrels before bottle rest. Black Tears functions as Tapiz’s flagship Malbec, linking San Pablo estate farming with extended barrel élevage and parcel selection.
