Description
A gently inclined marl and limestone slope in the Barolo zone supplies the 2021 Giuseppe Mascarello Langhe Freisa Toetto, drawn from a parcel with a history of planting both Nebbiolo and Freisa and shaped by Monforte’s cool nights. The well draining site supports a slow ripening pattern, and vineyard work relies on meticulous pruning, careful leaf management, and sustainable soil care aimed at maintaining balance across a mixed exposure hillside. Grapes are picked by hand and fermented in concrete or stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, allowing temperature and extraction to track the variety’s inherently firm structure. Maturation proceeds in large neutral wood for quiet evolution without blurring site distinctions. Within the portfolio, Toetto underscores Mascarello’s ongoing effort to preserve local varieties through patient farming and a moderate, tradition informed cellar approach.
