Description
From the Čitluk district south of Mostar, the 2021 Josip Brkić Čitlučka Žilavka is a dry white wine from Bosnia-Herzegovina produced principally from Žilavka, with some trade sources listing 85 percent Žilavka and 15 percent Bena and Krkošija. Pasko Brkić established the modern family cellar in Čitluk in the late 1970s, and Josip Brkić later redirected the estate toward native Herzegovinian varieties and biodynamic viticulture. The vineyards lie at roughly 800 to 1,300 feet within a temperate Mediterranean climate framed by hills and higher mountains. Karst plateau soils rich in limestone define the growing context, and fruit comes from Brkić parcels with additional organic local grower material. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts in stainless steel, followed by three months on the lees and bottling without filtration. The cuvée places Žilavka at the center of Brkić’s work on local varieties, biodynamic farming, and restrained cellar handling.
