Thin limestone with fine grained marl on an east facing slope shapes the 2022 Benjamin Leroux Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle, a parcel lying just downslope from Chapelle-Chambertin and suited to gradual Pinot Noir ripening with moderated vigor. Leroux’s micro négociant and domaine work since the mid 2000s has been grounded in detailed parcel study across the Côte d’Or, and here he collaborates closely with growers farming the rows under organic principles, with careful pruning and canopy management adapted to cool airflow and shallow soils. Harvest is carried out by hand in small lots to preserve separation among blocks within this compact premier cru. Fermentation takes place in tank with restrained extraction, followed by maturation in a measured selection of barrels chosen to complement the site’s structural precision.
