Description
From small holdings in and around Barbaresco, Fabio Gea Onde Gravitazionali 30-67-3 2022 is a Piedmontese Vino Rosso composed in this vintage of 30 percent Barbera, 67 percent Nebbiolo, and 3 percent unidentified white or wild grapes. Fabio Gea left a career as a geologist to restore family parcels inherited from his maternal grandfather Pòtu, whose vineyards had historically been farmed in polyculture with numerous grape varieties. The estate centers on sites near Bricco and Bricco di Neive, where the soils are generally composed of calcareous marl, clay, and sandstone, although the precise altitude and exposure for this cuvée are not published. Vineyard work is performed manually, with minimal use of copper and sulfur treatments, and the final blend reflects the natural proportions harvested from a small mixed planting.
Onde Gravitazionali is vinified in sandstone vessels, consistent with Gea’s broader use of self-designed containers alongside glass, older wood, stainless steel, and other neutral materials. The wine is light to medium in body, with bright acidity, moderate fine-grained tannin, and a vivid profile of sour cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, plum, rose, orange peel, tea leaf, crushed herbs, earth, iron, and pepper. Barbera contributes juiciness, darker fruit, and freshness, while Nebbiolo provides perfume, savory complexity, and structural grip. The unidentified grapes add another layer of aromatic variation, reinforcing the wine’s field-blend character. Overall, it is an energetic, lightly rustic, and highly individual expression of the Langhe, shaped by mixed-variety inheritance, vintage-specific composition, and low-intervention cellar practice.
