Description
From the left bank of the Serein, the 2022 J. Moreau et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet is a Burgundy white wine from France made entirely from Chardonnay within the Chablis Premier Cru appellation. J. Moreau et Fils traces its origins to 1814, when Jean-Joseph Moreau, a cooper, entered a Chablis wine family, and the house later became part of the Boisset group in 1997. Côte de Léchet is a 51-hectare climat with southwest-facing slopes and gradients reaching 38 percent, where Kimmeridgian marls, clay, and terre à lapin limestone sand shape drainage and erosion patterns that require regular vineyard work. Grapes are slowly pressed pneumatically, then cold settled. Fermentation begins in stainless steel, with 15 percent transferred after three days to fine-grained barrels for continued fermentation and weekly stirring, while the balance remains in tank. Full malolactic fermentation and about 14 months on fine lees place the cuvée within the house’s focus on Chablis climat interpretation and measured élevage.
