Description
A distinctive mixed pole training system on the Novara hills underpins the 2022 Le Piane Vino Rosso La Maggiorina, preserving an historic cultivation method in which multiple varieties are grown together in the same planting. During the estate’s early reconstruction, Christoph Kuenzli documented these old plots as living records of pre modern viticulture. The vines stand on volcanic porphyry at elevations shaped by cool Alpine airflows, conditions that influence cluster development and drive canopy decisions through the season. All varieties are harvested together and cofermented, with gentle extraction used to respect the traditional field blend character. Aging proceeds in neutral vessels to retain clarity. Within the Le Piane project, this cuvée continues the effort to sustain the cultural and agronomic identity of the maggiorina system, once widespread in Alto Piemonte and now rarely maintained.
