From the Bussia holdings in Monforte d’Alba, Poderi Aldo Conterno Barbera d’Alba Conca Tre Pile 2022 is a Piedmont red from Italy made entirely from Barbera within the Barbera d’Alba DOC. Aldo Conterno founded Poderi Aldo Conterno in 1969 after purchasing the Favot estate in Bussia, and the winery is now run by Franco, Stefano, and Giacomo Conterno. The estate vinifies only its own grapes from 25 hectares of vineyard in Bussia, generally positioned at 350 to 400 meters with south and south-west exposures, on clayey marls and limestone with sandy layers. Conca Tre Pile is a hilly area in Bussia Soprana planted mainly to Barbera, with vines reaching a maximum age of 45 years. Grapes are harvested manually with selection in the vineyard, then fermented in stainless steel with 8 to 10 days of skin contact at 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. After several months in steel, the wine spends a few months in oak casks, placing Barbera within the estate’s broader Bussia-focused work.
