Description
From the cobblestone terrain west of Milton-Freewater, the 2023 Cayuse Vineyards En Chamberlin Vineyard Syrah is a Walla Walla Valley AVA red from the Oregon side of the appellation in the United States, made entirely from Syrah. Christophe Baron, born in Champagne and trained in French viticulture, founded Cayuse after identifying the area’s stony soils in the 1990s, and Elizabeth Bourcier is documented as resident vigneronne within the broader Bionic Wines estate group. En Chamberlin is a 10-acre vineyard planted in 2000 on phylloxera-resistant rootstock and farmed biodynamically. The site lies within the Rocks District context, where basalt cobblestones and silty loam define the alluvial fan soils; one trade source lists altitude at about 875 feet, while detailed exposure data are not published. The 2023 wine was aged 18 months in French oak, 15 to 20 percent new. The cuvée fits Cayuse’s work through estate Syrah, stone-defined farming, and parcel-specific cellar decisions.
