Description
Chardonnay from Chassagne-Montrachet and associated village sources shapes the 2023 Nicolas Potel Chassagne-Montrachet AOC Blanc, a Côte de Beaune village wine from Burgundy, France, issued under the Maison Nicolas Potel label. Nicolas Potel created the négociant house in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1997 after the sale of Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, where his father Gérard had been a central figure; the label later passed to the Cottin brothers of Labouré-Roi while continuing under the Potel name. Fruit is linked to Chassagne-Montrachet and Remigny, within an appellation whose vineyards sit between about 220 and 340 meters on clay-limestone soils, with Jurassic hillside formations and more recent alluvial material toward the plain. For the 2023 white, hand-picked and sorted Chardonnay is pressed after harvest, cold settled for 48 hours, then fermented and matured through alcoholic and malolactic conversion in oak barrels of mixed age for 12 months without stirring. The wine places the Potel label within a négociant framework built on selected village fruit and controlled élevage.
