Description

Within the terraced coastal vineyards above Varigotti, the 2023 Punta Crena Colline Savonesi Lumassina Frizzante is a lightly sparkling white wine from Liguria, Italy, made entirely from Lumassina, a local variety associated with the Savona coast and the area around Varigotti. Punta Crena is run by Paolo Ruffino with his siblings, continuing Ruffino family work in steep vineyards that sources describe as extending over more than 500 years. The sites lie close to the Mediterranean, within about 1,200 meters of the sea, with terraced parcels around 250 meters and silt-based soils noted for this bottling. Hand harvesting reflects the physical constraints of the coastal slopes, where stone terraces and gradient limit mechanization. The wine is directly pressed and fermented through a single-fermentation frizzante method that preserves natural carbon dioxide, with spontaneous fermentation, two months on lees, and bottling without fining, filtration, or added sulfur noted in trade materials. The cuvée supports Punta Crena’s work with indigenous Ligurian varieties, practical farming continuity, and minimal cellar adjustment.
