Description
In the Saar side valley of the Konzer Tälchen, Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett feinherb 2024 is a Mosel white from Germany made entirely from Riesling. Erich Weber, trained at Geisenheim, began making wine in 1981 and restored the Falkensteinerhof after acquiring it in 1985; Johannes Weber now works with him at the family estate. Herrenberg is one of the Niedermennig sites farmed by the Webers, with gray slate and quartz soils, old vines, and steep, low-density parcels that require intensive manual labor. Sources for the 2024 feinherb bottlings identify individual casks such as Onkel Peter and Meyer Nepal, including vines from the upper Herrenberg and the south-facing Zuckerberg sector. Grapes are whole-bunch pressed, moved by gravity, and fermented spontaneously in traditional 1,000-liter Fuder without commercial yeast, enzymes, chaptalization, concentration, or deacidification. The cuvée fits Falkenstein’s work through cask-separated bottling, Saar Riesling specificity, and restrained cellar practice.
