Le Piane’s 2024 Vino Bianco βιαηκΩ extends the estate’s work in Boca to recover traditional white varieties that were historically interplanted across Alto Piemonte. Revived in the 1990s by Christoph Kuenzli with enologist Sergio Barbaglia, the project has focused on restoring abandoned terraces and rebuilding the area’s historical vineyard fabric. Fruit for this cuvée comes from small field blend parcels rooted in porphyry based volcanic soils that naturally limit vigor and require careful hand farming. Moderate altitude sites, influenced by Alpine cooled nights, guide harvest choices as the season progresses. Fermentation takes place in neutral vessels, followed by extended lees contact to integrate the diverse components while maintaining a restrained, site centered profile. Within the range, this bottling supports the long term study of nearly lost white cultivars and their role in documenting Boca’s agricultural heritage.
