Description

From the cooler Spitzer Graben, the 2024 Veyder-Malberg Wachau Grüner Veltliner Viessling is a dry white wine from Niederösterreich, Austria, made entirely from Grüner Veltliner within the Wachau DAC. Peter Veyder-Malberg founded the estate in 2008 after earlier technical and commercial work in Austrian wine, settling in this western side valley of the Wachau. The Viessling bottling comes from late-ripening vineyards around Viessling, with producer material describing mainly north-facing sites; trade sources place Grüner Veltliner on lower slopes influenced by loess and ancient river deposits, while mica schist and gneiss are more prominent in the surrounding terraces. Farming is organic, and the estate emphasizes hand work on small, steep parcels. The 2024 analysis lists 12 percent alcohol, 1 gram per liter residual sugar, and 5.5 grams per liter acidity. Viessling fits Veyder-Malberg’s work by presenting Grüner Veltliner through a cooler Wachau sector, late harvest timing, and restrained cellar decisions.
