Description
Gravel and clay dominated soils typical of Saint-Estèphe underpin the 2016 JM Cazes Saint-Estèphe AOC, produced through the Cazes family’s network of grower relationships alongside their long stewardship of Lynch-Bages. Cool maritime air and deep subsoils contribute to a slow ripening cadence for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and associated varieties, aligning with an appellation profile built on structure. In a year marked by steady growth and favorable late season conditions, vineyard partners worked with moderated yields, canopy alignment, and drainage management calibrated to the season’s demands. Fruit is harvested by hand and fermented under controlled conditions in stainless steel or cement tanks, then aged in a mix of barrels selected to encourage integration without overshadowing regional character. Within the family’s broader projects, this cuvée offers a useful counterpoint to their Pauillac based work and informs their wider reading of Left Bank vintage expression through the lens of Saint-Estèphe.
