Description
Sand, silt, and calcareous marl on the Monforte slopes underpin the 2017 Conterno Fantino Langhe Rosso Monprà, a Nebbiolo and Barbera blend assembled from the estate’s holdings in low vigor sites. In the warm 2017 season, vineyard work emphasized canopy shading, soil moisture preservation, and yield control to keep ripening even across both varieties. Nebbiolo and Barbera were harvested separately and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel, then matured in French oak barriques and tonneaux selected through detailed trials to evaluate structural outcomes for each component. Within the Conterno Fantino range, Monprà bridges the varietal wines and functions as a technical reference for studying how Barbera and Nebbiolo interact under shifting climatic conditions, informing decisions around blending, parcel allocation, and longer term vineyard redevelopment.
