Description
The 2018 Chianti Rùfina Riserva Vigneto Erchi is produced at Selvapiana, an estate in the hills northeast of Florence where the Giuntini family has long pursued a site centered approach to Sangiovese in this cooler corner of Chianti. Vigneto Erchi, acquired in the late 1990s and planted afterward, sits on galestro and alberese with elevations and exposures that capitalize on Rùfina’s naturally moderated temperatures. Work in the vineyard is geared toward steady vine balance, with selective pruning, calibrated canopy density, and close monitoring of stress as breezes move through the Sieve Valley. After harvest, the fruit ferments in temperature controlled vessels, and the wine is raised in large neutral casks to build cohesion while keeping the parcel’s outline clear. Within the Selvapiana range, Vigneto Erchi functions as a focused single vineyard study, conceived to complement Bucerchiale and to track how this younger planting interprets Rùfina’s stony soils through restrained, methodical élevage.
