Description
Adobe Guadalupe’s 2019 Gabriel is framed by the Valle de Guadalupe’s arid, coastal conditions, a setting that helped shape the region’s modern focus on Bordeaux and Rhône varieties in the early 2000s. Estate parcels are rooted in decomposed granite, sand, and clay that drain freely and moderate vigor, while strong Pacific influence and pronounced diurnal swings slow ripening relative to the valley’s heat and light. Farming follows sustainable practices, but the low rainfall makes selective irrigation and careful canopy work essential across blocks that face differing exposures along the surrounding foothills. Grapes are harvested by hand in small lots, then fermented in steel or concrete with extraction managed to suit the blend’s component varieties. The wine is matured in a mix of barrels chosen to integrate structure without overwhelming the imprint of site and season. In the broader Adobe Guadalupe range, Gabriel serves as a lens on how classic varieties translate in Baja under disciplined water management and a measured élevage.
