Description
Built around estate Tannat grown in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the 2020 Domaine Labranche Laffont Madiran Tradition reflects the long stewardship of Laurence Ilhe at this family run property in Viella. The vineyards occupy gently rolling slopes with clay and limestone dominant soils, interspersed with varying levels of gravel, where Atlantic influence and mountain proximity moderate the growing season and allow for even, measured ripening. Viticultural work favors low intervention methods, hands on canopy adjustments, and controlled yields to manage the naturally firm structure of the variety. Fermentation proceeds in stainless steel with an emphasis on steady, controlled extraction, followed by élevage divided between tank and neutral wood to soften tannins while maintaining site transparency. As a foundational cuvée within the domaine, Madiran Tradition serves as a direct expression of estate fruit and anchors the broader range through a consistent, technically focused approach.
