Description
Across the northern sector of the appellation, the 2021 Alain Jaume (Domaine Grand Veneur) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Le Miocène is assembled from parcels rooted in Châteauneuf’s classic mix of galets roulés, clay limestone, and sandy soils, holdings cultivated by the Jaume family over multiple generations. A cooler, uneven season in 2021 required close attention in the vineyard, with sustainable practices supported by careful pruning and canopy adjustments tailored block by block. Grapes are harvested by hand and vinified parcel by parcel in concrete and stainless steel vats, with extraction calibrated to the structural tendencies associated with each soil type. The lots then mature in large foudres and neutral barrels to preserve clarity while encouraging slow integration. Within the Grand Veneur portfolio, Le Miocène serves as a long term interpretation of the appellation’s mosaic, linking detailed viticulture to a measured, regionally grounded élevage.
