The southeasterly exposure and the river’s moderating presence extend the ripening window through reflected light and steady airflow, while the narrow, erosion prone terraces keep the work resolutely manual and sustainability minded. Harvesting is carried out selectively, followed by whole cluster pressing and fermentation in stainless steel and large neutral casks at moderated temperatures so the site’s structure can be followed without heavy imprint. Lees aging continues until the wine reaches cohesion within the Smaragd frame. Ried Kirchweg sits as a concentrated site expression in the estate’s Riesling range, linking primary rock terraces to disciplined cellar handling that is central to the Pichler approach.
